The 2024 Suzhou Shushan Pear Blossom Cultural and Tourism Festival kicked off on Mar. 19. The event will last for more than two months, featuring a variety of activities centering on 5 themes. This annual festival attracts a large number of visitors each year and appreciating pear flowers in Shushan Village has become one of the most important leisure activities in spring for Suzhou people.
During this year’s festival which will last from March to May, people can not only feast their eyes on the beautiful pear flowers in Shunshan Village, but also attend the photo-sharing activity on platforms such as Tiktok and Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book). Other sideline activities include a gourmet market themed on Suzhou-style rice cakes, an intangible cultural heritage (ICH) fair, and an experience activity of pear-blossom tourism in Danba County of Sichuan Province.
Over the past decade, Shushan Village has changed out of all recognition. It has transformed from an unknown mountain village into an important rural tourism destination in Suzhou with a strong economy, rich people, beautiful environment and a high degree of social civilization. The village has received such honors as the national agricultural tourism demonstration site, the national ecological village, China’s beautiful countryside, and the national civilized village. In the future, it will make continuous efforts to enhance the brand influence of Shushan pear blossoms and further promote the development of rural tourism.
